Is Jim Carey’s movie “The Mask” is a drug reference?

Question by : Is Jim Carey’s movie “The Mask” is a drug reference?
He finds a strange thing on some dead guy in a bad part of town (dealer), every time he puts the mask on (does the drug) he goes crazy feeling invincible and isn’t very easily hurt, he hangs around odd parks late at night and even rubs a bank ( the high), at one point he throws the mask out the window (trying to kick the habit), but the mask flies back in (returning temptation), when he gets back to his appartment after work he tries to throw the mask away again but jumps on it and puts it on (falling for the addiction), all this time he is running from the police and bad guys with guns. Am I the only one who has thought about this? Or is it supposed to be that way?

Yeah, he stays up all night and his apartment is trashed the next day and he doesn’t remember a thing. Funny metaphor actually.
