About 8 yrs ago she recieved a felony conviction. The situation was her boyfriend borrowed her car to go one place but took it another and left it (he was abusing drugs , get the picture?). “Sue” said she considered the boyfriend stole her car b/c he was 6 hrs overdue returning the car and never went where he said he was going so the car was gone w/o her permission. Long story short she was convicted of lieing to an officer which went from a misdemenor to felony charges. My friend has never been in any other trouble and this happened about 8 yrs ago. Problem is as a single parent with two small kids she is unable to work most jobs with a felony conviction, she was just let go from a temp agency today due to her felony conviction ( as she has worked for them for a year now and they knew of the felony, but now say she can no longer work). This situation makes life even harder for her as a single parent, and she has no extra money to fight this charge.

your friend should consult with an attorney instead of seeking information on this site. Every state has different laws about sealing records, expungement, dismissal and pardons.

I live in Illinois, and I don’t think even going to the gov. will help. First of all they will say that she should have appealed the verdict 8 yrs ago when this all happened. And there going to tell her that it’s her responsibility to not let people take her property. Haven’t you ever heard the saying “guilty by association”. Well that’s kinda how this is. And what did you mean she lied to an officer? And didn’t she know about her boyfriends drug problem. Courts look at it as if she’s in a relationship with him and lets him use her car, then she knows about his drug usage. I mean I could be wrong but it don’t look like she’s got much of a chance of having this overturned now. Like I said, she should have done this 8 years ago. She might want to ask an attorney that gives free advice and see if she even has a case. Hope this helps and everything works out for you friend. Good Luck!
