I think there is no real way to completely prevent it, but you can most certianly try. Tell your kids the Truth about drugs & the effects they have. Alot of parents keep those things taboo– outta sight , outta mind… wrong answer! Only a well informed child can make such hard adult life decisions & make them the ‘right’ way.

I think making your teen feel secure with who they are starts when they are babies. Make sure they have enough self esteem to say ‘no’ & be different.

That’s tricky because teens think they are invisible..I am a recovering addict though I didn’t start using until I was 25..so I may not be much help. Most teens use because they want to see what it’s like or peer pressure..they feel unloved or just because of stress..when I was high…it didn’t matter how stressed out I got..My best friend could have died..I didn’t care..I always thought “that will never happen to me”..Maybe you can introduce them to other teens who are walking that road or have..take them to the hospital (some doctors will set this up for you) and show them a patient who has overdosed on drugs and who will be on life support forever..Even as an adult at 24 if someone had told me that at 25 I would be an addict, I would not believe them and teens “know everything:” GL
